Join the Linn County Suicide Prevention Coalition and Foundation 2 for a virtual Lunch and Learn featuring Rob Otto, suicide prevention coordinator at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
This event is free and open to the public.
From Rob Otto: “A public health approach to suicide prevention and firearm safety involves proactive, person-centered and effective strategies focused on early intervention and preventing problems before they happen. Healthcare providers in our local communities play a crucial role in connecting those they serve with information and resources on firearm safety. However, given the controversial issues surrounding the topic of firearms, it is a conversation that many avoid. Knowing how to have the conversation about firearm safety and suicide prevention in a non-threatening, non-judgmental way in the context of ‘global safety’ is a key element to the success of the public health approach.”
