It is easy to take this simple luxury for granted, but when you don’t have access to items such as clean socks, underwear, towels or shirts, it can be a major inconvenience. Especially when you are a young adult living in a shelter.
*Wearing clean clothes is a sign of self-respect.
*Practicing good personal hygiene is important to be socially acceptable.
Why is this important to Foundation 2?
The Foundation 2 Youth Shelter provides housing for young adults between the ages of 11 and 17 years of age. We have the ability to house up to 17 youth at a time. That is a lot of laundry!
Unfortunately, the washing machine at our shelter died a few days after the one year warranty was up. The wonderful owner at Metro Appliances is working with Foundation 2 to sell us a gently used washer at a discounted rate. However, one machine isn’t quite enough to keep up with laundry for the number of clients with laundry needs at our facility. Metro Appliances has suggested a sturdy washer and dryer that will best meet the needs of the clients we serve. The cost of these appliances is $1,000 per unit for a total cost of $2,000.
How can I help?
Your donation will help us to raise the $2,000 needed to purchase laundry equipment for the Foundation 2 Youth Shelter. Your donation of any amount will serve as a resource to meet our laundry needs. This is just another way to let the youth we serve know that someone cares about them during what may otherwise be a stressful time.
To those in crisis, clean clothes mean a lot.
