The Partnership of Iowa Foster Care Youth Councils, AMP- Achieving Maximum Potential, will hold its 2013 legislative day at the State Capitol Building on Monday, January 28, in Des Moines. AMP’s second annual event will feature Iowa’s first lady Chris Branstad speaking on the importance of forever families for Iowa’s children as well as several youth sharing their personal experiences in foster family care, shelter, group, adoption, and kinship care.
A kickoff press conference is scheduled from 10 – 10:30 a.m., January 28, 2013, in the Capitol rotunda of the State Capitol Building. Following the AMP press conference, AMP youth from 13 foster care youth councils will seek out and meet with and educate their local legislators regarding ideas and suggestions for improvements to Iowa’s child welfare system.
AMP youth will also be hand carrying to each legislator and the Governor copies of Rights & Responsibilities of Youth in Out-of-Home Care. This document was generated by the AMP youth themselves and they are requesting that state agencies and child welfare organizations incorporate the document into policy and practice manuals.
AMP would like to invite all legislators to join us!
