Ways to Take Care of Yourself

Self-care is such an important part of mental health.  If you aren’t sure where to start, below is a list of ways to take care of yourself.  Please take a moment to review the list to see what resonates with you!

  • Celebrate the little victories.
  • Forgive yourself.
  • Take a hot bubble bath.
  • Learn something new.
  • Make a list of things that you love about yourself.  Encourage someone in your life to do the same and then create lists about each other.
  • Do something that you have always wanted to do.
  • Read a good book.
  • Create a future oriented vision board.
  • Start a gratitude journal.
  • Do something kind for someone you don’t know.
  • Do something kind for someone you do know.
  • Connect with nature.
  • Pet an animal.
  • Start a compliments file.
  • Looks at the clouds during the daytime or the stars at night.
  • Fix something in your home that is broken.
  • Unplug from technology.
  • Take three deep breaths.
  • S-T-R-E-T-C-H your body.
  • Put on your most comfortable clothing.
  • Light a candle or smell something good.
  • Have a good laugh!
  • Take a nap.
  • Write out your thoughts or worries and shred or burn the paper.
  • Plan something that you look forward to.
  • Spend time with your favorite hobby or learn a new one!
  • Go to the library.
  • Sing at the top of your lungs!
  • Bake something.
  • Go to bed early.
  • Surprise someone.
  • Take a road trip.
  • Get a massage.
  • Volunteer.
  • Say “no” to someone or something.
  • Draw.
  • Donate to a cause that you care about.
  • Learn a new language.
  • Jump in puddles.
  • Tell someone that you love them.

  • Smile, and hold it!
  • Be crafty.
  • Garden.
  • Listen to a podcast.
  • Watch a home movie.
  • Stop what you are doing and focus on your body and your breathing.
