Street Outreach Service
SOS offers a connection to runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth, up to age 21, who are in need of the basic necessities of living. SOS helps youth leave the streets by finding them safe shelter and/or returning them to their homes.
Services Provided
Outreach specialists provide youth and their families:
- Direct counseling services on issues such as relationships, substance abuse, sexuality and STDs, sexual assault, family mediation, and crisis situations
- Much-needed supplies including personal hygiene items, food, clothing and blankets
- Drop-in programs that offer healthy food, counseling services and recreational activities
- Youth development opportunities through a leadership group and community service
- Information and referrals
How To Connect With SOS
SOS outreach specialists travel the streets of Cedar Rapids at various times, talking with youth who appear to be at risk and may have no safe place to stay.
SOS hosts regular drop-in and after-school programs. Referrals to SOS are accepted from a variety of community organizations, agencies and individuals. Call 319-297-7519 to contact outreach services, locations and schedules.
