Meet the Foundation 2 Board of Directors

Ellen Ramsey-Kacena

Board President
Ramsey-Kacena Law I joined the Foundation 2 Board because I have had the opportunity to see the benefit Foundation 2 provides to the community.  I have worked with many families in juvenile court, some of which had children placed at the Foundation 2 Youth Shelter.  I have always been impressed with the rapport that staff has with the children and with the level of care the children receive.  I have also had an opportunity to see the benefit provided by the mobile crisis outreach unit.  There have been many families who have been able to use this service to avoid a hospital stay and to diffuse a tense situation.  The administration and staff at Foundation 2 are committed to helping families in crisis.  This is more than just a mission statement; it is a way of life at Foundation 2.  I am proud to be a member of the Board and to help continue to support this organization.

Hollie Trenary

Board Vice President

Cedar Rapids Public Library

After being introduced to Foundation 2 last year I knew I had to get involved. This organization is a critical resource in our community that more people need to know about and pay attention to. Not only does the organization do great things but they do them for the people most in need of support in our community. I am committed to support the team at Foundation 2 and further the mission “to be a trusted, compassionate resource for people in crisis” so no person ever feels alone or without options.

Cristy Hamblin

Board Secretary
Cedar Rapids Police Department

I have been with the Cedar Rapids Police Department since 1983. Foundation 2 has been such a great resource to our department for as long as I can remember. They have helped our department in times of a crisis and when we had nowhere else to safely place a child. Whether it is a crisis of suicide, runaway, family disagreement, or general child welfare, Foundation 2 is a vital part of our community. I am very proud to be a part of the Board of Foundation 2.

Randalle Knapp

Board Treasurer

Bohr, Dahm, Greif and Associates P.C.

I joined the Foundation 2 board because I’m interested in making our community a better place to live.  I also strongly believe temporary hardships should not define a person’s life.  I am excited to be part of an organization focused on our community’s future and providing services to offer community members an opportunity for positive change.

Lary Belman

I joined the Foundation 2 Board because I value the work the agency does to improve the lives of people in crisis.  Before retiring, both as a therapist and administrator, I provided counseling services similar to those of Foundation 2.  Thus, Board service gives me the opportunity to continue to utilize my professional expertise, in an advisory way now, toward the betterment of people's lives.  Service to others, satisfaction and fulfillment for myself: this is the essence of why I joined the Foundation2 Board.

I think that Foundation 2 provides an invaluable and underappreciated service to the community.  Crisis can strike any person at any time, and unfortunately crisis often affects the vulnerable members of our community who do not have the resources to appropriately handle it.  It is easy to take an organization like Foundation 2 for granted, but for many of the people that the staff and volunteers of Foundation assist, it is essential.  I want to support Foundation 2's mission and am proud to serve on the board.

Ben Fiedler

Benchmark, Inc.

When I was asked to serve with Foundation 2, I had no idea what services they provided, or how they helped the community. After learning about the food pantry, the youth shelter, and the 24/7 suicide prevention help line, I knew Foundation 2 was an organization making a difference in our community. If a family is in crisis for any reason, Foundation 2 is there to help. Since becoming a member of the board of directors, I have had a higher sensitivity to funding needs involving mental health, on the national, state, and local level.

I am inspired by the work that Foundation 2 does to help those in need in our community.  As a mother of 2, I feel a special connection to the helping hand that Foundation 2 is able to provide to the youth of Cedar Rapids.  I am honored to be a part of the Board of Directors for this organization and I hope that I am able to utilize my network at Rockwell Collins to increase our reach and impact in Cedar Rapids.

In 2006 I was looking for a non-profit board on which to serve and Foundation 2 had an opening.  While I didn’t know much about the organization before joining, I have come to learn the important role that Foundation 2 plays in the community.  I also gained a better understanding of the challenge that non-profits face in funding the much needed services they provide.  I am glad to be a part of an organization that assists for vulnerable youth and families in our community.

I discovered Foundation 2 when I was looking for ways to give back to the Cedar Rapids community. I knew little about the organization but quickly found that Foundation 2 provides critical compassionate services to many people in Cedar Rapids during moments of significant need. I also discovered that anyone who had contact with Foundation 2 spoke highly of the quality management of the organization, the wonderful services it provides and the great people who help those in difficult times. I have personally confirmed the accuracy of those accolades since joining the Board of Directors in 2013. This organization helps people and puts people first

Kayla Lyftogt

Coe College

As the Director of Community Engagement at Coe College, I am happy to serve on the Foundation 2 board as a representative of the Coe-Foundation 2 connection.  I believe there are many unique and interesting ways that our organizations can partner together and build capacity for the community.  I also look forward to utilizing my other community connections and relationships in my new role on the board.

Tina March
Linn-Mar Schools

I am honored to serve on the board for Foundation 2.  I was stunned to learn of the depth of help Foundation 2 provides in this community and beyond.  As an educator, I especially appreciate the work of Foundation 2 and feel proud to support this organization in any and all possible ways.

Heather Ries

Regional Medical Center

I learned of Foundation 2 through the recent regionalization of mental health services from an individual county-level to a combined region in the state of Iowa.  I serve as a Chief Nursing Officer of a rural critical access hospital.  We learned of Foundation 2’s Mobile Crisis Outreach and are excited about the possibility of expanding this service into our rural area.  Like in the larger cities, rural Iowa is constantly challenged to meet the needs of our mental health patients.  I am honored to represent rural Iowa on the Foundation 2 Board.

Joining the F2 board in 2009, it has been my privilege to give back to this agency that was "there" for me as a teenager.  To me, the greatest services of Foundation 2 are hope and stabilization in the initial, most overwhelming hours of a crisis.  F2 staff provides reassurance that you're not in the crisis alone, belief that despite immense pain or grief, you will make it through, and help with a way forward for a better tomorrow. Being on the F2 board has opened my heart to judge less and serve more.
